Leighton Fine and CTS win the Toyo Drift Australia Championship using Clutch Industries
South Australian driver Leighton Fine drove the CTS 180SX to victory in the Toyo Tires Drift Australia Series. The new Australian Drift Champion took the crown at the final round of the Toyo Tires Drift Australia Series at Oran Park Raceway.
The CTS team was running the Clutch Industries Drift Series Clutch.
It only took one season for CI to make the biggest possible impact on the Toyo Drift Australia Championship. CI provided the clutch system that took the team to victory, sponsored the Championship winning team and sponsored the series.
Leighton Fine took the championship in fine style and said “I’m very happy with the clutch provided by CI”. He went on “I immediately felt at home with the CI Drift Series Clutch, it handled power well on the track and I was not conscious of it on the track, which allowed me to concentrate on driving - that is a great sign”
Team Owner Bill Bromley has progressively developed the Team CTS car to the position of championship leader.
Fine entered the weekend with a 70-point championship lead over Luke Fink. In a championship-defining battle, Fink needed to win the semi final and the event, and hope Fine lost the third-place battle in order to take the title.
However Leighton Fine won the semi final and the Championship. “It’s a great feeling, I’m ecstatic”, Fine said. “We’ve had a fantastic season, we’ve been competitive everywhere which is a credit to Team CTS and the work they’ve done all year”.
As a result of his championship victory, Fine will receive an invitation to compete in the new Red Bull Formula Drift World Championship event, taking place in America in November.
Telecasts of the 2008 Toyo Tires Drift Australia Series finale will commence on Sunday 19 October, on Speedweek, SBS.
