Technical Tip – Installation of a new concentric Slave Cylinder in Holden V8 5.7Ltr, Ford BA/BF Series

After installing a new concentric slave cylinder into a Holden 5.7 litre GEN111 or Ford BA/BF Applications, it is common to experience difficulty in obtaining a good pedal feel, sometimes to the point of the clutch not releasing. This generally relates to the bleeding of the hydraulics.

When fitting the new C.S.C. it is highly advisable to prime it before attempting to operate the clutch.

We recommend the following procedure:

  1. Mount the CSC in position on the gearbox.
  2. Open the bleeder screw.
  3. Inject fluid into the line from the master cylinder, until fluid comes out the bleeder. (Depending upon model, it may be necessary to attach a flexible line to the intake pipe to enable this, and to ensure that the fluid level stays above the CSC.)
  4. Close the bleeder.
  5. Pump the slave manually a few times.
  6. Repeat steps 2, 3, & 4.
  7. Install gearbox assembly.
  8. Connect hydraulic lines and bleed clutch as normal.
